David Stubbington Retirement

Saturday, October 9, 2021 - 20:47

Today is the last working day for our esteemed estimator David Stubbington.

Dave started his career with Elliotts on the 2nd of September 1963 with 4 GCE ‘O’ Levels and the disapproval of his father who wanted him to follow in his stone mason footsteps. He began as a trainee estimator for ‘Elliott Brother Roofing Ltd’ given the position by Mr. Percy Bennett. He worked there for almost 10 years when he left to another roofing contractor in Southampton but then later formed his own company ‘Premier Roofing Ltd’ and in 2004 discussions with Stuart Elliott lead to the birth of Elliotts Premier Roofing Ltd.

Dave has been a big part of the Elliotts history and growth.
During 2017, Elliotts celebrated their 175th anniversary and photos of Dave’s Morris Minor parked in front of the Head office in the 60’s were part of the collection of memories.

Amongst the projects Dave has been involved in over his years in the roofing trade he has some projects that stand out from the rest;
* Bedale's School. Petersfield - complete re-roof
* Royal Clarence Yard .Gosport - re-roofing the grade 2 listed buildings.
* Highfield Church Southampton - re-shingling of the church steeple.
* Bighton House. Alresford - re-slating/leadwork to grade 1 listed building.
* Royal Victoria Country Park. Netley - re-shingling the café and the re- slating of the chapel
And maybe most importantly the re-roofing of Roger Walters (of Pink Floyd) home in Romsey!

When asked what he would miss about working at EPR Dave said:
“I will miss the comradery and general banter with my fellow office colleagues, albeit since March 2020, part working from home has eased me into this gently into retirement. I will miss the meeting of clients to discuss propose works and the preparation of surveys following site inspections.” “Since starting out in 1963 in the 'roofing contracting' industry I have never forgotten that Elliott's gave me the introduction, and from this initial start, has paved the way for the past 58 years. I also have to give my thanks to Stuart's father Newlyn Mason Elliott who gave me a loan of £250.00 as a deposit for a property when I notified him of my marriage to Hazel”

Dave is now looking forward to his well-deserved retirement where he plans to enjoy traveling around the country with his partner Hazel and Dog Elfie in their campervan, tackling some projects around the home and taking leisurely drives in his 1967 MGB.

Everyone at Elliotts Premier Roofing wishes you the best retirement and thanks you for all your years of hard work, You will be greatly missed by all the team!
