Permeable Block Paving

Permeable paving is a special type of block paving with slightly larger gaps between the blocks

These gaps allow surface water to drain between the blocks instead of running off

From October 2008 regulations state that any front garden or driveway over 5m2 if it is being paved over or existing driveway is being replaced it must incorporate SUDs (Sustainable Drainage Systems)
This requirement was introduced to prevent surface water run-off to the highway which then helps reduce the risk of future flooding ultimately producing a more sustainable infrastructure for our urban spaces
