Engineering bricks are designed for use where strength and low water absorption are required. Traditionally these may be required on applications such as retaining walls or for ground works.
Normally they are produced as Red Smooth or Blue Smooth either perforated or solid and are manufactured to be denser and stronger than ordinary facing bricks.
There are two different classifications; Class A and Class B based on minimum compressive strength and maximum water absorption not falling below 70 N/mm 2-4.5% and 50 N/mm 2-7% respectively.
